The SWL QSL Museum Kenya Africa VQ7LO - Imperial International Communication Company - Nairobi - 1956 - Station Overview  Courtesy of  RE Kravutake - Hawaii - (USA) VQ7LO was the historic callsign of Kenya’s very first radio broadcasting station, established in Nairobi in August 1928 under the East African Broadcasting Corporation. Operated primarily to serve the British expatriate and white settler communities during the colonial era, the station broadcasted British news relays (such as the BBC) and musical programs across shortwave and mediumwave  frequencies. It initially gained global recognition among early shortwave radio DXers and hobbyists who would tune in from thousands of miles away to catch its mid-afternoon transmissions. VQ7LO actively broadcasted on 4885 kc (kilocycles/kHz) and made appearances on 6085 kc By 1956, the station was reaching the final year of a historic 25-year colonial agreement signed in 1931 with the Imperial International Communication Company. Shortly after this period, the station's infrastructure would be absorbed into what eventually became the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
