 The shortwave radio transmissions for the Democratic Voice of Burma  during its early exile period
in the early 1990s were sent from the Norwegian shortwave transmitter site located on theisland
of Kvitsøy (Kvitsoy) in Rogaland, Norway.
Operated as a clandestine radio broadcaster set up by Burmese expatriates and opposition
 activists, broadcasting initial shortwave programming into Burma starting in July 1992 and
 
establishing early border operations and ethnic programs by 1993.
