The SWL QSL Museum Russia Asia Radio Free Chechnya - 2000 - Station Overview QSL Contributed by Hashimoto Kenji (Japan) "Radio Free Chechnya" was a pro-Moscow shortwave and mediumwave radio station that emerged around late 1999 to broadcast news and battle reports during the Second Chechen War. Concurrently, around 2000,  international media and organizations like Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty  heavily tracked and reported  on the devastating conflict, leading to the eventual congressional mandate for RFE/RL's own North Caucasus regional broadcasts. "Radio Free Chechnya" broadcasted up to 18 hours a day with a pro-Russian federal perspective during the height of the 1999–2000 military campaign.
