This period was highly volatile for the station. In December 2013, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a
decree to liquidate the Voice of Russia and merge its assets into Rossiya Segodnya. While there were widespread
rumors and official notices that shortwave operations would completely cease on January 1, 2014, the station managed to
briefly extend a modified frequency schedule into early 2014 before completely abandoning shortwave bands later that April.
